The
purpose of Maine Women in the Arts is to promote and give exposure
to Maine artists and their work in all media. Maine Women in the Arts is a
statewide, non-profit organization founded in 1977 by and for
individuals in the fine and performing arts. Our purpose is to
promote and give exposure to artists' work in all media - visual
arts, music, theater, poetry, literature and dance. We are open
to both men and women.
The group meets the first Thursday of each month, alternating
between an 8 am meeting at the Mast Cove Galleries, and a 7 pm meeting at the Graves Library in Kennebunkport. If you would like to attend
any of our meetings, please come along and join us. After we discuss business and our upcoming shows, we often have a demonstration, a short lecture or a critique.

Membership in Maine Women in the Arts, with $40 annual dues,
entitles you to hang in all of our shows with no additional fees.
At the summer and
Prelude shows, fine crafts may be shown by artists who exhibit
at those shows. We work together
to mount our art shows and ask members to help with some facet
of running any show in which they exhibit their art: publicity,
hospitality, hanging or removing the show, for instance.
Although many of the present members of MWA are fine or visual
artists, we encourage all creative people to join us in promoting
the arts. We have combined past fine art shows with poetry readings
and host a tea with members reading their own poetry as well
as their favorite poems. If you are a musician, actor, or any
other type of artist and wish to join us, we would love to talk
about the best way for us to help you promote your discipline.
